Dump Truck - Operation & Safety is part of VISTA's growing family of Silver Series online training programs, which are 1-2 hours in length and are delivered via the web. These training programs are ideal for new operator training as well as refresher training for experienced operators.
Dump trucks are many times used as the starting position. Make sure your dump truck operators are well equipped to deal with what they may encounter in the field.
Lesson 1 - Introduction: This lesson covers the basic steps that can be taken to prevent dangerous accidents related to driving and fire. Important warning signals, operator responsibility, and the importance of the operator’s manual are also discussed.
Lesson 2 - Getting to Know Your Truck: The dump truck’s components, systems, and controls are described in this lesson. Trainees will form a foundation of knowledge about monitoring their truck during operation.
Lesson 3 - Pre-use and Post-use Inspection: Inspection is an important aspect to maintaining a safe work environment for operators and other workers, which is why this lesson covers each part of the dump truck’s inspection in depth. This lesson helps trainees understand how to identify areas with broken or missing parts before and after use, as well as how to safely perform an inspection.
Lesson 4 - Operation: This lesson outlines the steps for starting up the engine, as well as methods for operational testing, parking, and safely operating during possibly hazardous weather conditions.
Lesson 5 - Loading: This lesson discusses different situations when a dump truck would be loading, as well as different methods of loading. Truck positioning, load placement, and operator safety are also covered.
Lesson 6 - Hauling: Driving the dump truck safely in changing conditions around other types of worksite traffic is explained in this lesson. Turns, shifting, and balancing loads are also discussed.
Lesson 7 - Unloading: This lesson helps trainees understand the importance of recognizing the unique conditions of the site they are working and how to safely back, dump, and spread material.
